TAKING ACTION

Alan Pigram

I was born and bred in Broome. I come from a big family a family of 12 and I've got a band with seven of us brothers in it. Along the way I've picked up engineering skills and producing music skills and I've got my own studio here in Broome. I've been playing music for about 30 years.

I guess my involvement in music is just a bit broader than actually playing in a band, because part of me wants to help other people get their music out as well. There's always been tons of talent in Broome but the difficulty was that we always had to go away to do things. So I've been trying to push this thing where we can record our own albums in Broome.

And now you can do that quality thing in Broome, through music firstly, but I'm branching out into film as well. But again I'm more into producing than being on camera or as a cameraman or whatever.

I can see a future in the DVD technology. This will be the first DVD to come out of the Kimberley but it's a high level product. It'll be like a benchmark because what's important is to be able to pass on knowledge and help the kids, the young fellas. I wish I'd been able to do this 20 years ago, before a lot of the old people had passed away. They'd have loved to have been involved in this.

My father is from Broome and I've got lots and lots of family around the Broome area. My mother came up here as a nurse and they got married and went to live down south.

This is my first stint of living in Broome and I've been at the CEO here for five years now. Before Broome I was at the CEO in Perth and prior to that I was at Deakin University in Geelong for five years.
