Case
management approach
Individual
students often bring a range of problems to school. When these
are problems that interrupt or hamper an individual's potential
to succeed at school, any member of the College staff or parents
can request a Case Conference. At this conference and depending
on the particular problems (health, social/emotional well
being, spiritual, intellectual) a range of specialist staff
and teachers are involved in developing a strategy plan for
support and development. One member of this team is nominated
to manage the proposed program. All programs are reviewed
regularly.
Orientation
programs
On
enrolling, students are placed into home-groups and the first
few weeks are focussed on orientation to the world of Kormilda
College, its procedures and demands. Community groups that
maintain language group identity. As an ongoing program, students
from particular language groups are encouraged to support
each other. A community group leader is allocated and over
their time at Kormilda College they meet on a weekly basis
support each other and have fun.
Leadership
The
Student Representative Council has a policy ensuring Indigenous
student representation. Indigenous students also take part
in a leadership program.
Recreation
program
A
series of activities are offered every week out of school
hours and on weekends to ensure students access a range of
experiences across Darwin and have fun.
Weeks
6, 7, 8 program
In
a Residential College, students often become home-sick and
restless by Week 6 of a ten-week term. We have developed an
alternative educational program for Weeks 6 to 8 to support
students to stay focussed at school. The underlying principle
of this program is to provide real-life learning experiences,
often off campus. |
