Numeracies in Indigenous Communities
Situations
that occur in everyday family and community life
The resource
includes:
- A CD with video snapshots of
Aboriginal community members on how they use numeracy
in their lives (social, family, shopping)
- Seven hands-on problem-solving
tasks developed from the stories
- Integrated software which allows
for extension of learning
- Teacher and learner notes with
extension options.
The seven tasks
Each task pack consists of a double-sided
card and the required hands-on materials. The front
of each card provides:
- Step by step instructions for
carrying out the task
- Further challenges
The back of each card includes:
- Where the task came from
- The numeracies included in the
task
- the mathematics included in the
task (curriculum outcomes)
- teacher and student options for
extending and deepening the learning
- Links with the CD and
software
