Numeracies in Indigenous Communities

Situations that occur in everyday family and community life

The resource includes:

  • A CD with video snapshots of Aboriginal community members on how they use numeracy in their lives (social, family, shopping)
  • Seven hands-on problem-solving tasks developed from the stories
  • Integrated software which allows for extension of learning
  • Teacher and learner notes with extension options.

The seven tasks

Each task pack consists of a double-sided card and the required hands-on materials. The front of each card provides:

  • Step by step instructions for carrying out the task
  • Further challenges

The back of each card includes:

  • Where the task came from
  • The numeracies included in the task
  • the mathematics included in the task (curriculum outcomes)
  • teacher and student options for extending and deepening the learning
  • Links with the CD and software
